Botanical Name

Nymphaea 'Mrs. George Pring'

Hybridized By

1922, Georage Pring of the Missouri Botanical Garden.

History

For years, there was a demand for a tropical day-bloomer. Hybridizers would use poor plants with one good quality to attempt to get the good qualities in one plant. This is one result of years of work. The following water lilies were used.
N. ovalifolia – white flowers but few petals.
N. castaliflora had many blossoms for this hybrid.
The above resulted in light blue blossoms.
The hybrids were crossed with N. ovalifolia to get the F2 generation that was white.
The hybrids were self-pollinated to stabilize the white blossoms. After a couple years in 1922, the white blossoms stabilized.
A final croll with N. ovalifolia and 'Mrs. Edwards Whitaker'.

Awards

1922. Silver Metal from the Society of American Florists.

The table below shows the estimated shipping and pick-up weeks for destinations to USA states. These dates can change depending on weather and how strong the plants are at that time.

For example, a wet spring will have many clouds leading to less sunshine. Thus, the plants may need a bit longer to grow strong enough for transplanting and transit. With the planet heating up, a warm spring may help the plants grow strong enough to ship before the dates in this table.
