Description
The Giant Arrowhead plant is a striking perennial water plant that adds height, texture, and elegance to ponds, wetlands, and shallow water areas. Native to North and South America, this obligate wetland (OBL) plant thrives in saturated soils, shallow ponds, and temporary water zones, making it an ideal choice for naturalistic water gardens and wetland restoration projects.
Growing from underground rhizomes, the Giant Arrowhead produces leaves that initially develop underwater before rising above the surface. These arrowhead-shaped leaves can reach heights of 1 to 3 feet, with dimensions varying up to 11 inches long and 9 inches wide depending on growing conditions. Their bold, upright form creates a dramatic vertical accent in aquatic environments.
From June through September, the plant produces delicate cream to white flowers about 1 inch in size. These blossoms are arranged in whorls and often feature burgundy spots at their bases, adding subtle visual interest. Pollinated by insects, the flowers contribute to a thriving pond ecosystem, attracting beneficial pollinators to your water garden.
Versatile and resilient, the Giant Arrowhead can also grow along pond edges, in shallow temporary water, or in muddy areas influenced by tides. Its adaptability, combined with its tall, distinctive foliage and elegant blooms, makes it a valuable addition for both ornamental and ecological purposes.
Whether you are creating a serene water feature, restoring a wetland habitat, or enhancing a pond’s edge with natural beauty, the Giant Arrowhead plant delivers impressive visual appeal and ecological benefits. Its hardy growth and unique arrow-shaped leaves make it a standout choice for aquatic and wetland landscapes across a wide range of climates, from New England and the Middle Atlantic States to the Southeast, Michigan, and California.

The table below shows the estimated shipping and pick-up weeks for destinations to USA states. These dates can change depending on weather and how strong the plants are at that time.
For example, a wet spring will have many clouds leading to less sunshine. Thus, the plants may need a bit longer to grow strong enough for transplanting and transit. With the planet heating up, a warm spring may help the plants grow strong enough to ship before the dates in this table.
