The Tropical Pickerel Rush came from British Guiana and is related to the North American species.

The heart shaped foliage is dark , waxy green and is taller than the native variety. The flowers resemble our native Pickerel Rush except that there are two shades of color in the petals-light and dark violet blue. Several florets open as the previous ones close, thus giving a long flowering time to the spikes.

Note: With the abundance of flowers and growth, this plant requires much nourishment and must be planted in plenty of rich soil or fertilized often during the season.

Benefits	The bold upright foliage is a wonderful backdrop along the margins of your pond. Provides a spawning ground for some fish. Dragonfly larvae may morph on the leaves.
Appearance	Flowers look like drooping tassels. Long thin dark green stems.
Size	1'-2' tall depending on growing conditions. Spread: 2-feet.
Preferred Growing Conditions	2+ hrs/day direct sunlight. They do best in 2 inches of water. Best to cut back the old growth to the ground. USDA Zone: 4-9.
