Description
Marmorata Water Lily Overview
The ‘Marmorata’ water lily is a historic and elegant aquatic plant developed by George Pring in 1917. It originated from the popular water lily Mrs. Edwards Whitaker, making it a classic choice for ponds and water gardens. Its large blue flowers are not only visually striking but also emit a delightful fragrance, enchanting both gardeners and visitors.
Stunning Blue Flowers and Lavender Petals
Marmorata produces numerous lavender petals that are thin yet graceful, creating a soft and sophisticated bloom. The large flowers float on the water, providing a beautiful display throughout the growing season. Because of its color and form, Marmorata stands out among other water lilies and adds elegance to any pond or tub garden.
Unique Lily Pads with Striking Color
The lily develops light green lily pads with irregular blotches that add visual interest. The upper surfaces are reddish-brown, while the undersides are dark and densely spotted with purplish-blue. These patterned pads float gracefully on the water, shading the pond, helping reduce algae growth, and supporting a balanced ecosystem.
Additionally, the pads provide shelter for koi, goldfish, and other pond inhabitants, contributing to both beauty and pond health.
Vigorous Growth and Long-Standing Popularity
Marmorata has been a favorite at Tricker’s nursery for decades, known for its strong growth and reliable blooming. Its ability to produce abundant flowers and maintain a vibrant appearance makes it a dependable and cherished water lily for enthusiasts. Therefore, this variety offers both beauty and performance in your aquatic garden.
Growing Requirements and Care
This water lily thrives in full sun, requiring at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Plant it at a depth of 12 to 24 inches in calm water for optimal growth and flowering. With proper care, Marmorata returns each year, providing fragrant blue blooms and lush lily pads to enhance your pond.
Ideal Uses in Water Gardens
Marmorata is perfect as a focal lily or combined with other water lilies to create a colorful, layered display. Its lavender-blue flowers, fragrant blooms, and patterned lily pads make it a standout in ponds, tubs, and decorative water features. Consequently, Marmorata brings lasting charm, elegance, and visual interest to any aquatic landscape.

The table below shows the estimated shipping and pick-up weeks for destinations to USA states. These dates can change depending on weather and how strong the plants are at that time.
For example, a wet spring will have many clouds leading to less sunshine. Thus, the plants may need a bit longer to grow strong enough for transplanting and transit. With the planet heating up, a warm spring may help the plants grow strong enough to ship before the dates in this table.
