This magnificent ‘Red Lotus’ is a rich purplish-red with pink overtones that has great blooming potential. It will add a beautiful color to your water garden.
The lotus has special meanings from spiritual to medicinal to simply visual beauty in your water garden. Rebirth evolved from the flowers going underwater at night and appearing the next morning.
Care. With proper care, the lotus can be a perennial in semi-tropical climates. They prefer shallow, murky water. Containers should not have drainage holes and have enough room to grow. They should be placed in a sunny location in your pond and in stationary water, not near moving water that spillovers and running fountains create. Like most plants, over fertilizing may damage the lotus plant resulting in burning.
In winter, the roots should not freeze, so plant it below your water frost line for the water. During summer, the container should have at least a couple inches of water above it and pay attention to the pond’s water line evaporating below that. If your winter freezes the water, then before the freeze, move the container below the frost line for your water. When the foliage turns yellow, it’s okay to prune them.
