Description
‘Rainbow Water Celery’ is a most unusual aquatic plant with cream, green and pink serrated leaves. In the summer the plant displays white carrot flower umbels.
This ‘Rainbow Water Celery’ has been a food source for both humans and fish. In some countries it is known to have medicinal or health tonic properties. Its curative value is mentioned in ancient or Chinese herbal writings.
Variegated water celery, scientifically known as Oenanthe javanica ‘Flamingo’, is a robust perennial bog plant that flourishes in USDA hardiness zones 5 to 11. This fast-growing species is celebrated for its striking tri-colored foliage, featuring shades of pink, white, and green. It is particularly well-suited for water gardens, thriving in conditions ranging from full sun to partial shade, and typically reaches heights of 8 to 12 inches. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, this plant is effective at nutrient filtration and can spread quickly, making it an excellent choice for enhancing the visual and ecological quality of aquatic environments.
In terms of care, variegated water celery is relatively low-maintenance, though its rapid growth may necessitate occasional thinning to prevent it from overwhelming smaller water features. It propagates easily through runners or stem cuttings, allowing for straightforward expansion in suitable habitats. Beyond its ornamental value, this plant is also edible and has been utilized in traditional medicine for its beneficial properties, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The leaves can be consumed raw or cooked, making it a versatile addition to both gardens and culinary applications.

The table below shows the estimated shipping and pick-up weeks for destinations to USA states. These dates can change depending on weather and how strong the plants are at that time.
For example, a wet spring will have many clouds leading to less sunshine. Thus, the plants may need a bit longer to grow strong enough for transplanting and transit. With the planet heating up, a warm spring may help the plants grow strong enough to ship before the dates in this table.
