The ‘Water Hornwort’ is a native, hardy milfoil-like aquatic plant is a decorative with a delicate appearance. It shows off a green tangle with fine linear leaf segments. This is suitable for fishes and their fry because they host plankton.
The night motions of young vegetative tops in the evening are interesting in that the leaves on the top part of the stem close under dim lighting.
This ‘Water Hornwort’ is excellent for removing harmful nitrates from the water and is able to photosynthesize under the ice in winter.
